What foods should you choose to help reduce your foodprint?

You can choose veggies. Vegetables such as kale, spinach, carrots, onions, tomatoes, green beans, cauliflower, peppers and lettuce can all be eaten raw. Not only that they can all be grown in your own backyard.

Fruit is a great choice. Yummy fruits would include watermelon, grapes, kiwi, cantaloupe, bananas, oranges, mangoes and apples. They can all be eaten raw and double points if you grow them yourself.

Dips can be a great choice. Salsa, hummus and guacamole can all be made from scratch and do not need to be cooked to enjoy.

*The best way to reduce your carbon footprint with fresh product? Buy your items locally and organically and in the correct season. Not only will your food be delicious and healthy but you will be supporting your neighborhood and helping the environment.

Great Carbon Reducing Snacks-

  1. Apples with cinnamon- slice an apple and sprinkle with a mixture of cinnamon and sugar.
  2. Ants on a Log- smear a celery stick with peanut butter and dot it with raisins.
  3. Fruit Salad- chunk up your favorite fruits and mix. Voila!
  4. Tomato and Onion Salad- cut up a tomato and an onion, then mix with a vinegar and oil dressing and a little fresh oregano and basil.


Other Easy Ways to Reduce Your Carbon Footprint

  1. Unplug- When you are not using anything electric. Unplug it. This is good for the environment and your soul.
  2. Switch Off- When you leave a room turn off the light. Your dad has been telling you that for years anyway, right?
  3. Walk- Choose your legs over your wheels and make an impact.
  4. Plant a Tree- Trees offer oxygen and destroy carbon dioxide. Plus they are pretty! Win-win!
  5. Combine Errands- You will save your sanity and help the environment.
  6. Turn off the Water When Brushing Your Teeth- It is ok. You will adjust.
  7. Don’t Waste Paper- Read the news online, recycle paper and don’t use paper plates.
  8. Replace Lightbulbs- Go with Energy Star and get LED whenever possible. They last so much longer.
  9. Get Reusable Shopping Bags- You have procrastinated long enough. Just do it.
  10. Spread the Word- Encourage your friends, family and neighbors to take these steps as well.

*It can be hard to change your carbon footprint. Not all changes can be made overnight. Some need to be a process to get where you are one day. It is ok if you are not able to change everything at once just take it one day at a time and you will be get where you want to be eventually. When it comes to reducing your carbon footprint as well as your foodprint every decision you make has an impact. Every little bit of help does well help.
